Hi friends!
Welcome to my first post!!
This post will tell you some of the best places/things to do here in the GTA and surrounding areas that don't cost too much money (if you have some self control - which I don't) because shit is expensive out here and hanging out with your boo should not be.
My boyfriend and I love to just park somewhere scenic and chill in the car, or if we can, we'd get out and experience the best of what GTA has to offer. Below you'll find the places that we love to visit, a lot of them are in/around Scarborough because that's usually the area we're in! Let me know in the comments what you like to do for fun!
1. Stardust Drive In Movies - East Gwillimbury
This is the absolute best place to go on a summer night!!! Open 7 days a week, this drive in movie theatre plays all the newest movies. The best part is, with the purchase of one ticket you get to watch two movies (if you can stay awake that long)! There's a concession building in the middle that sells all the classics like popcorn, nachos, hotdogs, and more. They also sell Icee slushies, which is actually my boyfriend's favourite reason to visit since they're very rare in Canada. SO YEAH this place is awesome and I love to come here!! FYI there are a few more places scattered around so check their website to see if one is around you!
2. Guild Park - Scarborough
THIS PLACE IS A HIDDEN GEM!!! ONE OF MY FAVOURITE PLACES TO GO! I can't stress how beautiful this place is! This place has amazing stone statues and artwork that has been taken from old buildings in Toronto that were being demolished back in 1950! This place is on top of the bluffs and a great place for a stroll with your love. My boyfriend and I love coming here and just walking around. You can even host an event here as it's a popular place for people to have weddings (me in 5 years lol)! You'll thank me when you're there, it's so worth the visit. ENJOY & I HOPE TO SEE YOU THERE ONE DAY! :)
3. Flea Markets - Various
Flea markets are fun to stroll around when you and your person have nothing but time to kill. My boyfriend and I love to spend a couple hours browsing whatever the hundreds of merchants have for sale and then grab a bite to eat. My favourite market that we've been to is the Pickering one because it is huge and my favourite vendor has a store there. Other markets include Scarborough, Downsview, St.Lawrence and Kensington. There are a few more, but those are the popular ones that I know and enjoy going to!
4. Driving Around Expensive Homes - Bridle Path
This is something that my boyfriend and I do a LOT. The best place to go to see expensive ass homes is The Bridle Path. The homes are gorgeous and massive! We just drive slowly and admire each one, always yelling "WOW LOOK AT THIS ONE" even though we've seen the houses multiple times. Fun fact: Drake bought a house there for about $7 million. Another area that has amazing houses is cliffside by the bluffs. Both are definitely worth checking out and have some of the most luxurious houses you'll find in Canada!
5. Scarborough Bluffs
If you like taking long walks on the beach..this isn't quite it, but it's as close as you can get without travelling too far from home! This is a great place to hang out and spend some quality time with your boo. There's a lot to walk as the bluffs stretch 15 km and have such sweet places to have a picnic! Don't forget to take a look at the bluffs from the street view at the top, it's a really amazing view that you don't want to miss!
6. High Park - Toronto
This park is so amazing, big, and beautiful! I've only been here once so far but this place is so nice and I can't wait to go back! There is a LOT to do at this park. High Park is known for the cherry blossoms that grow in the Spring. They also have a large pond where you can fish, TWO soccer fields, FOURTEEN tennis courts, a swimming pool, and a ZOO. This is all on top of the beautiful scenery and walking/biking paths available to the public. There's also a very cute diner with a patio somewhere in the 400-acre property, near the iconic maple leaf made of flowers. Omg how nice!!!
7. Fruit Picking - Various
Fruit picking is always a great date to have with your s/o! So far I’ve picked apples and cherries and both were absolutely delicious. I have picked apples at Applewood Farm Winery (they also have strawberry picking - which is over for 2019). According to their website, apple picking season starts in September which runs into pumpkin season and strawberry season is later in June, which leaves a narrow window for picking the delicious fruit. I went cherry picking at Parkway Orchards in Niagara on the lake which also has has peaches available for picking (happening in about a week). Both places had great fresh fruit for picking!!
8. Toronto Islands
This is an absolute lovely way to spend a day whether you're going with friend(s), family, or your person. It's like a mini staycation!! There's a lot to do on the islands including visiting the lighthouse, the theme park, the nude beach, the other beaches, the residential area, the zoo and more! You can also rent a quadricycle (my fav), grab a bite at The Rectory (an island classic), take a walk down Lakeshore Avenue, and tour the pond on a swan ride. With so much to do, you might want more than a day to take it all in! To get there, you need to take a 15 minute ferry, a nice fun ride with a great view to get you to the island!
9. Yuk Yuk's - Various
Yuk Yuk's is a live comedy club that makes for a super fun night! Tickets range from $5-$20 per person depending on who's on stage and what night of the week they're performing. That's very reasonable for a few hours of good laughs. They have a few locations in Ontario including Toronto, Vaughan, Niagara Falls, Oshawa, Burlington, and more! Definitely fun and worth the visit.
*FYI be careful when sitting in front of the comedian as they are ruthless and will call you out live!!!
10. Outlet Malls - Various
I love going to outlet malls because who doesn't love a good deal?! Window shopping at a regular mall is the WORST but at an outlet mall it's okay because you can afford basically everything. I usually don't like shopping at a physical mall but I will gladly enjoy walking around an outlet. What's awesome is that a lot of the outlets are strip malls so you'll just be walking outside and enjoying the beautiful weather! A few of the outlets I love: Vaughan Mills, Toronto Premium Outlets, and the Outlet Collection at Niagara.
So my friends, there you have it - ten great places to have fun around the GTA.
If you haven't been, I highly recommend going to all of these! Also, if you know of or have been to any places worth mentioning please leave a comment or send me a quick email, I'm always looking for new and exciting places to go!
That's all for now folks. Have a great day/night/life.
Much love,
Crystal
